Devenir is presented as a deeply personal CD that traces the artistic and human journey of guitarist David Strbac, conceived not as a planned narrative but as a reflection of life unfolding over time. Recorded intermittently across several years, the album captures moments of change, growth, and transformation, ultimately becoming a musical portrait of “becoming” — the essence of the word devenir. Rather than striving for definitive interpretations, these recordings preserve authenticity, memory, and lived experience.
At its core, the CD reflects Strbac’s profound connection to Spanish music, a fascination rooted both in his family heritage and in a personal search that began during his teenage years and intensified during his studies in Vienna. The programme brings together works by Eduardo Sainz de la Maza, Manuel de Falla, Joaquín Rodrigo, Isaac Albéniz, and Joaquín Turina, composers whose music shaped his artistic identity. Each section of the programme corresponds to a specific stage in his development, both musically and personally.
